In recent years at RMBL, we have found that camper demand exceeds our capacity. Instead of a first-come first-served registration, we will be moving to an application process to enroll campers for the upcoming season. All campers, new and returning, are invited to enroll through this system.

The Nature Camp application period will be open on February 1st, deadline to apply is February 28th, 2023.

In order to keep students, scientists, and staff healthy in light of COVID-19, for Summer 2023, all participants in RMBL programs will be required to follow the RMBL COVID-19 health and safety plan, which will include proof of vaccination, and may include mask-wearing, hand-washing, personal distancing, and group size limits. Vaccine exemptions will be considered, as required by law. 

RMBL’s nature camp is designed for children entering kindergarten, first and second grades in the fall of 2023. Programs will be based out of the Youth Nature & Science Center in Gothic, CO and in surrounding outdoor areas that students will access by hiking.  Nature Camp cultivates a multidisciplinary and playful approach to immersing students in the natural world and field science through hands-on activities such as experiments, nature inspired art and games.  Camps are being offered in weekly, Monday-Thursday daily sessions. The same group of students will be with one another for the entire week. Three different weekly themes will be offered throughout the summer, this enables students to attend up to three weeks of nature camp this summer.

Program times: 9am-3pm Monday-Thursday (8:30am-3:30 drop off/pick up at CB 4-way)

Session 5: July 31st-August 3rd, Wonders of Water **This week we will be offering transportation from the town of Gunnison

Backbones Not Required! What do butterflies, bees, spiders and snails have in common? They’ve got no spine! It takes a strong outer shell and some wild adaptations to be a spine-less creature in the Rocky Mountains. Join us for a week investigating the world of decomposers, predator-prey relationships and the many strange characteristics of invertebrates. Campers will meet RMBL scientists that research the wacky world of these creatures and the benefits they have in our environment. (Sessions 1 and 2) 

Powerful Plants: Why are leaves green? How do trees stand up so tall? Why do flowers smell pretty? Campers will discover a new passion for science and nature as we look into what plant scientists do, how plant explorers venture to the tops of mountains to look at the smallest flowers, and so much more! Spend the week answering these questions and more as we investigate the superpowers of the plant world. (Sessions 3 and 4) 

Wonders of Water: Water is the thread that connects us all! Have you ever wondered who lives in and around the water in our mountains? Where does the water in our mountains come from? Investigate the ecology of the rivers, ponds and the soggy wetlands that are home to many creatures large and small. Join us for the week as we explore the power of water and all its magic! (Sessions 5 and 6)
