The county has opened the road.

The county has let us know that the road will open today, mid to late afternoon.

The county has indicated, without many details, that the road will likely open by May 26th.

Update 5/17/2022 – 3:30 pm

This morning the County plowed the road past the East River Bridge and on to Gothic.  Their crew observed damage to the guardrail and some concrete on the bridge.  They are bringing engineers out on Thursday to inspect the bridge, and the County expects to receive the report sometime next week.  The road will not open before the County reviews that report and any recommendations therein.   The County is doing all they can to expedite the process.  We don’t have enough information to make firm projections on the road opening date, but the earliest date would be late next week, and that assumes repairs are unnecessary.  We will post updates here as we learn more.

In the meantime, please plan accordingly.  We have some parking at the Mt. Crested Butte base area for individuals scheduled to arrive next week.

There have been a number of years where the road opened beyond June 1, and sometimes much later.  We’ll figure it out!
